Hear my soul speak:

The very instant that I saw you, did

My heart fly to your service.

Hamlet, William Shakespeare

It’s February and romance is in the air!

With all its world famous theatres, restaurants and night life, London is one of the most romantic places to spend Valentine’s day.

To make the most of the occasion this year, why not treat your loved one to a private tour of London for a truly memorable experience. This special time of year sees a marked increase in requests for our Evening and Night tours, which can be customised to include special behind the scenes visit to discover the London of the the greatest writer on the theme of love himself – William Shakespeare.

Although Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon, it was in the City of London where he wrote most of his best plays over four hundred years ago: plays which are still being performed today.

Back in 1580 Greater London’s population was c. 200,000 inhabitants, versus almost 14 million today. While much has changed since the end of the Elizabethan period that Shakespeare was writing in, there are still a surprising number of curiosities and off the beaten path locations from the great bard’s time which can be discovered on London Magical Tours’ private London tours, including:

  • The Staple Inn, a Tudor building on the south side of High Holborn street, the last surviving Inn of Chancery. It was designated a grade I listed building in 1974.
  • Majestic Southwark Cathedral.  A gothic structure with foundations dating back to the year 1220, Southwark Cathedral is located only a few steps away from where Shakespeare’s original Globe Theatre was located back then. A life size statue of the playwright is found inside the cathedral. Opposite it are stain colour windows that reflect some of his most famous plays including The Tempest and Hamlet. Did you know that one of Shakespeare’s brothers was actually a fine actor?
  • Back in Shakespeare’s time, St. Paul Cathedral existed but without the famous dome built years later by Sir Christopher Wren. That original St Paul’s burnt down as a consequence of the Fire of London of 1666.
  • As part of several off the beaten path Shakespeare locations, is a great little treat in Cripple Gate, the old neighbourhood where Shakespeare actually lived. He has never been forgotten in his neighbourhood and hints of romance exist all around …

Our client of the month featurette is back and this one is particularly well timed – to coincide with the start of London Magical Tours’ annual Christmas tours!

The Client of the Month places the spotlight on one of our guests to reveal all about their sightseeing experience: no scripts, no gimmicks, no special effects. Its simply an honest review in one of our visitor’s own words.

This month sees the start of our seasonal special and one of the most popular tours of the whole year – the Magical London Christmas Tours.

The capital’s only fully Christmas themed tours has guests provided with their very own professional tour guide and in addition, a chauffeur to avoid all parking problems and discover the best of London during the holiday season.

Unlike other tours with the word “Christmas” in their title, this is not a regular tour of the London landmarks which happens to take place during the holiday season – this is an actual tour dedicated to what it means to spend Christmas in the greatest city on earth.

So here it is, the latest addition to the Client of the Month series. Simply click on the video link below to watch in glorious Full HD:

See the spectacular holiday lights and decorations, the capital’s main (as well as hidden) Christmas trees, while also learning the important stories behind how the London’s traditions have gone on to shape the way Christmas is celebrated across the world – including the influence of the Victorians and a certain Mr. Charles Dickens!

London is looking extra special this Christmas season. If you’re still needing to be convinced, see more details by visiting the dedicated section for our London Christmas Tours

So what are we looking forward to over the coming months? Well to begin with, there’s:

– Strawberries and cream at the Wimbledon Lawn tennis club
– UEFA Euro 2016 Football. Its been four years since the last tournament: catch the best matches on big screens all over London or for the more adventurous, pop over to Paris to see the games live with our friends at Paris Magical Tours.
– Music festivals, garden parties and lunches at roof top terrace pubs

– The horse racing season, including Royal Ascot: ladies in fine hats and dresses and gentlemen in tails

– Royal Celebrations: The Trooping of the Colour to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday and the Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle: a stunning display of British tradition at its very best.
… and last but not least: more more hours of sunshine goodness!

London will also host for the very first time the London Games Festival. Celebrating everything from culture, art, the  business of games and video games – there is something for everyone including workshops, activities and the largest Monopoly board in Trafalgar Square!

Did you know that the Queen is lucky enough to have 2 birthdays? That’s right: although Her Majesty’s official birthday is in June, the Queen’s actual birthday falls on the 21st April. Look out for gun salutes being fired in Central London to mark the occasion.
