Oxford, the enchanting city of spires, cloistered colleges and secluded gardens is home to one of the worlds most famous universities. It is also the inspiration for the Harry Potter, Narnia and Lord of the Rings stories. With optional extension to visit the Cotswolds.
Set out deep in the English countryside, Oxford has been the educational home to some of the world's greatest minds and leaders. Its spectacular location on the Chernwell and Thames Rivers has also been the inspiration for the works of some of the world's most famous authors including, amongst others, Charles Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll), C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
After being driven through some spectacularly scenic countryside, the day begins with your personal guide taking your party on a private guided tour of Oxford town and its historical colleges.
Hear tales and and secrets from the past as you take to the cobbled streets and marvel at the spiralling architecture, admiring every British architectural period from the Saxons to 18th century icons such as the Radcliffe Camera, regarded by many as the city's prime landmark and the beautiful St Mary the Virgin Church, the original seat of the university.
For lunch you'll have time to choose from a range of traditional English pubs or restaurants and visit the wide variety of shops in this charming traditional english city.
There is also an opportunity to pay a guided visit inside Christ Church College, the largest and perhaps most famous of all the ancient Oxford colleges.
Harry Potter fans will feel right at home as Oxford has been a major source of inspiration for the highly successful film adaptations. Visitors will have the opportunity to enter Christ Church College, which provided Hogwart's staircase in the first film and see the Great Hall on which the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry's spectacular dining room was modelled.
Narnia fans will delight in hearing about the inspirations for C.S. Lewis' much loved chronicles, including a surprise visit to that lamppost which greeted the Pevensie children's first visit to the enchanting world of Narnia in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Visitors with an interest in the Lord of the Rings will be able to follow in the footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien, Professor of both Anglo-Saxon and English Literature throughout his time at Oxford. Witness what inspired the fight between good and evil in Middle Earth, including the chance to visit the local hang-out where Tolkien and the other members of the Inkling Circle met to share their stories.
Visitors wishing to extend their tour can include a visit to the beautiful medieval town of Burford in the Cotswolds, the perfect introduction to one of the most picturesque parts of England.
Known by the locals as "the gateway to the Cotswolds", the village is a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounded by gentle rolling hillside and sleepy English countryside.
Pay a visit to the magnificent St John the Baptist church dating back to the 12th century, one of the best secrets of Oxfordshire on the banks of the River Windrush before having time for traditional afternoon tea at one of the beautiful local tea roms.
Unlike other tours, the experience is not just an orientation service where you are left "to wander". It is also not just a drive where all the time is spent inside the vehicle:
Our tours are fully escorted, whether with a professional driver-guide at standard level (one person) or with your own sightseeing team at the VIP levels (professional tour guide plus, in addition, a chauffeur), so that you never miss a beat.
There are no parking problems or walking long distances to see the sights. The curbside service stops right by the attractions, away from the masses.
At standard level photo stops are made with commentary throughout. At our VIP levels with your own expert guide and extra chauffeur, stops are made at the key landmarks for you to go outside on walking tours led by your guide to sightsee in detail, hearing anecdotes and stories about London's past and present, while your chauffeur driven vehicle waits with no parking worries.
Put simply - there is no better way to help make the most of your valuable sightseeing time.
An entrance option is available to visit Christ Church College on this tour. See the Optional Extra tab above for ticket details.

We loved our tour of Oxford with London Magical Tours. As huge Harry Potter and Narnia fans it was amazing to see where so many of the books and films were inspired. We couldn't imagine doing it any other way.
