Stonehenge: Latest News

Pre-historic shafts, said to have been dug thousands of years ago, have been found by archaeologists near Stonehenge (just 2miles/ 3km from the landmark).

The shafts may have served as a border to a sacred region connected to stonehenge. The shaft (yellow dots) can been seen in the figure below:

National Trust archaeologist Dr Nick Snashall hailed the news of the finding as an “astonishing discovery”. She said :”

As the place where the builders of Stonehenge lived and feasted Durrington Walls is key to unlocking the story of the wider Stonehenge landscape, and this astonishing discovery offers us new insights into the lives and beliefs of our Neolithic ancestors.

“The Hidden Landscapes team have combined cutting-edge, archaeological fieldwork with good old-fashioned detective work to reveal this extraordinary discovery and write a whole new chapter in the story of the Stonehenge landscape.”

The latest news from Stonehenge comes after celebrating the Summer Solstice, which this year took place online as the annual event at Stonehenge was put on hold to next year due to the coronavirus. Footage of this years summer solstice at Stonehenge can be seen in the video below:

Queen Elizabeth enjoying the Spring Sunshine with her horses

We wanted to share this lovely photo of Queen Elizabeth, age 94, horse-riding on the grounds of Windsor.

The Queen stunned royal fans yesterday evening by sharing this photo of her horse-riding.

The Queen is pictured riding Fern – a 14 year-old Fell Pony – in Windsor Home Park.  The monarch wore a tweed jacket, gloves and a colourful headscarf and looked in great spirits!

Her Majesty has enjoyed riding since childhood and is closely involved with the welfare of the horses she owns for breeding, riding and racing.  The Queen loves her horses so much that it is often heard that she gives them a longer holiday each year than she does to her foot guards.

We would like to share a few of our favourite photos of Her Majesty with her horses through the years.

Did you know you can also visit some of the Queen’s personal favourite horses at the Queen’s Royal Stables, the Royal Mews in Buckingham Palace?

We only had 2 full days in London and didn’t want to waste them trying to see all the sights by ourselves so we booked a private tour with London Magical Tours. What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! Our tour guide made it so much fun for all of us especially our 2 teenagers. His knowledge of the history of all the places we visited truly made the experience unforgettable. From St. James Palace to the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, fish and chips in Kensington, Westminster Abbey, the London Eye and ending with high tea, we covered so much in one day. Our driver was amazing as well!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We had a memorable experience thanks to London Magical Tours!
